During an emergency meeting, the UN Security Council condemned North Korea’s most recent ballistic missile launch, demanding that they immediately cease such actions.

In a statement, the chairman of the UN Security Council stated “The Security Council condemns North Korea for its outrageous actions, and demands that North Korea immediately stop such actions. The Security Council stresses that these DPRK actions are not just a threat to the region, but to all UN member states.”

In addition, the UN Security Council expressed serious concern at the fact that North Korea carried out this missile launch over Japanese territory. Its recent actions and public statements, which deliberately undermine regional peace and stability, are causing serious concern about the safety of the whole world, reports “Interfax”.

After the UN Security Council ended their consultations, Vasily Nebenzya, the Russian ambassador to the international body, said that North Korea’s missile and nuclear programs should be discontinued, so the problem of the Korean Peninsula can be resolved peacefully. “Once again, we are saying that North Korea’s missile and nuclear programs must be stopped rapidly and without delay,” the diplomat said. “These ballistic missile launches pose a serious threat to naval and air navigation in the region”. Vasily Nebenzya urged Pyongyang to comply fully with the resolutions adopted by the UN Security Council, TASS reports. The Russian diplomat also stressed a military solution to the problems of the Korean Peninsula. “It is also necessary to prevent any further unilateral sanctions against North Korea, in addition to those already imposed UN Security Council” – he said. Vasiliy Nebenzya called for a reduction of military activities on the Korean Peninsula, while pointing out the urgent need to build confidence among the other countries of the region.

As reported, last Tuesday morning, August 29, North Korea conducted their latest ballistic missile launch, which flew around 2,700 kilometres into the Pacific Ocean after flying over the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido. The flight’s trajectory reached a height of 550 kilometers. The next day, North Korea confirmed that this was the launch of a medium-range intercontinental ballistic missile – “Hwaseong-12”. They emphasized that it was fired in the presence of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
