UN Deputy Secretary General, and under-secretary of the UN Counter-Terrorism Office, Vladimir Voronkov, said in an interview with “Izvestia” that the UN Security Council considers the movement of terrorist militants from the “Islamic State” into Asia and other regions of the world to be a real threat, following their defeat in the Middle East.

“A real threat exists. The Security Council notes that terrorists have begun to move across borders, since they are losing in Iraq. They are relocating to different territories, and preventing this is becoming one of the main counter-terrorism efforts of the United Nations activities” – he said.

According to Voronkov, the UN is actively involved in the coordination of international efforts to combat terrorism.

“Through my office there are several projects related to cross-border terrorism. These activities can be very intensive, and to counteract the spread of terrorism, it is necessary to coordinate the strategies of different services, “- said the Under Secretary.

Earlier, the deputy head of the Department of New Challenges and Threats (DNCT) from the Russian Foreign Minsitry, Dmitry Feoktistov, said that the leadership of the “Islamic State” is putting their money back into Europe “in anticipation of imminent defeat.”
